ONLINE GAMING is where two or more people play a game over the Internet. Servers are used to host online games. A server is an online lobby where people can join and play a game. The history of online gaming starts with two people sitting at the same computer and playing one game. One of the first games made was Spacewar! This game was made in 1961. It featured two people sitting at one computer (PDP-12, a very early gaming system). The game was the start for what became a world wide phenomenon. From then on, people began to try to invent devices for people around the world to play together. In some places, people go to huge conventions where there are hundreds of computers and they play online games such as World of War Craft and other popular games.

PLATO made talkomatic or "term-talk". Term-talk is when people playing online can chat with other players. PLATO made better graphics through terminals on the PLATO IV. This was the beginning for students to be able make online games for themselves. Today people around the world are playing online games and there are many gaming communities.
