philately.jpgIt was a privilege for the students of our school as they got an opportunity to interact with Ms. Savita Jhinghan,a prominent Philatelist  who visited the school on January 24 ,2011.She held a workshop for the students and enlightened them with her knowledge of stamps . She asked the students various questions regarding stamps and gave interesting stamps as rewards for the correct answers .Ms. Savita also told the students about the World Philatelic Exhibition which was to be held in Delhi from 12th to 18th February, at Pragati Maidan . The students were really excited to visit the exhibition and build up a bigger collection of stamps. At the end of the day she also heard and appreciated the song which had been written and composed by the for the inaugural function at the exhibition .Around 70 students, along with 4 teachers were invited for the inauguration of the World Philately Exhibition INDIPEX 2011.The occasion was graced by the Hon’ble President of India, Smt. Pratibha Patil , and other dignitaries . The students not only got an opportunity to browse through various stamps but also got their own stamps made. The highlight of the day was the performance by our school students of a self composed song, accompanied with music, in front of the exhibitors and the people who had come to visit the exhibition.

To celebrate the 150th Birth Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, the greatest source of inspiration for youth, Ramakrishna Mission, New Delhi, organized a Future Leader Discovery Contest for students of classes VI to XII.  The competition, spread over eight months, consists of three phases.Around 162800 students all over the country from 9000 schools undertook the initial online quiz. 

Neelakshi Prabhakar, a student of class XII of St.Mark’s Sr.Sec.Public School, Meera Bagh, cracked the quiz and reached among the top 1000 candidates.  The second round was a written round in which questionnaire had to be filled by the selected candidates. Neelakshi Prabhakar made it to the top 100 candidates for the final round of the contest.  Subsequently Neelakshi made it to top35 in the Semifinals. The Finals will be held on January12, 2012 on National Youth day in India. We wish her all the best!









A class activity was held for students of class IV of St. Mark's Sr.Sec.Public School, Meera Bagh, under Hridayshaan Activity - ‘Go Active’.  It was a group activity under the theme ‘Importance of Breakfast’.   The students of the respective sections were divided into various groups.  Each group had to perform an enactment on this theme.  Each team put up a nice show and used props wherever needed. It was a great pleasure to see them performing at a short notice.  They seemed to be well aware of the bad consequences of not having a healthy breakfast and importance of a proper breakfast. 

Disaster management –Mock Drill
Our school organized a mock drill on 8 December 2011.  Three volunteers were selected from each class. Each one of them was given a different position.  One of them hides himself under the bench.  The second one hid under the strong beam of the door and the third one stood in the corner of the classroom covering his head. The three of them depicted the steps one should plan during earthquake.

10 students of classes VIII and IX along with 2 teachers Ms. Harmeet Kaur and Ms. Lisha Manoj of St. Mark's Sr.Sec. Public School, Meera Bagh, attended an interactive session with Ms. Daman Singh, the author of the book ‘the Sacred Grove’ organized by Harper Collin Publishers at the India Habitat Centre on 16.7.2011.  The session was quite interesting as the author read out excerpts from her book and shared her experiences that she had while writing the book.  The students asked her questions about everything from her inspiration for her writing to the issues in her book.  Ms. Daman Singh shared other insights and personal stories about how she came to be a writer.  It was indeed an enriching experience for the future writers to get the valuable tips from the renowned writer.


Camlin Arts organized an Art workshop for the students of classes VI to VIII, of St.Mark’s Sr.Sec.Public School, Meera Bagh.  The three days workshop was organized from 18 to 20 June 2011, and was attended by students actively.  They enjoyed learning the art of coffee and crackle painting. 
Eco Club teacher Ms.S.Kaur of St.Mark’s Sr.Sec.Public School, Meera Bagh, attended a workshop organized by ‘Global Learning and Observation to Benefit the Environment’ (GLOBE), from 17th to 19th Feb.2011, at Delhi Secretariat.  The main purpose of this training programme was to unite teachers, students and scientists in the study and research about the dynamics of the Earth’s Environment.  They were trained to do protocols for atmosphere, hydrology, soil and land cover.


A Career Counselling session was organized by the Old Students’ Association of St.Mark’s Sr.Sec.Public School, Meera Bagh, ‘Atoot Bandhan’, on 13.10.2011 (for Commerce and Humanities stream) and on 14.10.2011 (for Science stream) for class XII.

Mentoring team comprised of the Dr.Mohit Kaul, the Vice President, Mr.Jagdeep Sodhi, Aeronautics Engineer, Dr.Vishakha Rao, and Dentist by profession, Mr.Rohit Mittra, Interior Designer, Mr.Jatin Arora, Music Composer, Mr.Victor Vaibhav Tandon, Advocate, Mr.Anuj Saluja, General Manager and Ms.Shobha Anand, Career Counsellor.

It was a very enlightening and interactive career counselling session where the students were guided on various career openings like Aviation, Medical Research, Management courses etc.

The Executive Body members Mr.Dushyant Yadav and Mr.Siddharth Pruthi were also present on the occasion.  This session of career counselling was an eye-opener and would definitely help the students to decide their career options.

Robotics Club of St.Mark’s Meera Bagh

Eight students of Robotics Club (Robomaina) of St. Mark’s Sr. Sec. Public School, Meera Bagh, participated in Robotics Competition organized at ‘The Sriram School’.  It was a thrilling experience for the students as they had designed robots performing various tasks based on the problem statements.  Designs made by the students were appreciated and it was a great learning experience for them.


The Guidance Counsellor, Ms.D.Chawla of St.Mark’s Sr.Sec.Public School, Meera Bagh, attended  the 7th Annual Conference on Dyslexia and  Specific Learning differences at Indian Islamic Cultural Centre on 7th and 8th October 2011.  The two day extensive workshop highlighted on understanding diverse learning needs in a classroom, ADHD and ADD as co-existing conditions of dyslexia, Response to Intervention, Role of Parents and Teachers, Evaluation of Learning and Performance.  To sum up, it was quite a knowledgeable experience and definitely broadened the knowledge on learning disabilities.
St.Mark’s Sr.Sec.Public School, Meera Bagh, hosted a workshop on “Techniques of Vedic Mathematics” on 11.10.2011.  The seminar was conducted by the recipient of ‘The Best Memory Trainer Award”, Ms.Aditi Singhal.  She has received 2 National Records for Memory and Fastest Calculation and has her name registered in ‘the Limca Book of Records”.  She talked about different methods used in Vedic Mathematics to ease calculations and make the subject interesting.  The workshop helped the teachers to focus on better methods of enhancing memories.  Everybody appreciated the activities performed for the explanation of the various techniques.  The workshop came to an end with the chanting of Shlokas and meditation.  It was a good learning experience for all present.

A Workshop was organized with I-Dream Foundation for students of Saviours of Earth Eco Club of St.Mark’s Sr.Sec.Public School, Meera Bagh, on 27.9.2011.  Mr.Rohit and Mr.Chetan conducted the workshop and spoke about the hazards of E-Waste.  The school managed to give 112 mobile phones and 40 chargers for recycling and was given a Platinum Certificate by the company Nokia.


Life Skills Workshop
Three teachers of St. Mark’s Sr. Sec Public School, Meera Bagh attended the workshop organized at Vishal Bharti Public School on 28 June, 2011. It was conducted by Ms. Madhu Sharma. The main aim of the workshop was to highlight the salient features of Life Skills as a subject. She talked about the ten aspects of life skills but emphasised mainly on Self Awareness and Creativity. Significant tips were given to develop activities and assess them effectively through mutual interaction among the teachers present. The line that stayed with one and all is “Each day for a teacher is like a one day international, always aiming for a sixer.”


N.C.C. Himachal Trekking Camp
Himachal Directorate organized an adventurous trekking camp at Caprola , Himachal Pradesh from 6 June, 2011 to 21 June, 2011. It was a national level camp. 11 states participated in this camp. From Delhi Directorate 45 cadets from different schools and colleges attended this camp. 7 cadets of class XI from St. Mark’s Sr. Sec Public School, Meera Bagh attended the camp. They stayed at different places like Caprola, Beer, Baijnath , etc. they used to trek about 12 to 15 km daily. They also visited different places like Asia’s biggest monastery, Baijnath Temple, etc. They learnt a lot. They took overall training under Army staff.
They enjoyed the camp with great zeal and enthusiasm
