What is Yoga?

The practice of yoga can go back over thousands and thousands of years. In earlier times, the devotion to health and long life, and freedom to choose this form of mediation made this a mental and physical workout that was attractive to many people.

Health Benefits of Yoga

    Flexibility
Lubrication of joints, ligaments, and tendons
    Detoxification of chemical by-products
Toning of the muscles through long muscle flexing

History of Yoga

Yoga was practice before written history. We know this because stone carvings with figures flexing into yoga positions have been found in archeological sites in the Indus Valley. These stone carvings are more than 5,000 years old.

Teachers of yoga pass their knowledge on from generation to generation. As one grows more experienced in yoga forms, this confidence is embraced as a passion and its continuity is assured by following students. Many techniques that are learned today have been passed down from teacher to student through many generations over the 5,000 years.
