Introduction

Sports and games keep one physically healthy. Sports improves five components namely strength, speed, skill, stamina and suppleness. Sports also help in the psychological growth of an individual. Exercise promotes self confidence. It makes a person feel alive. Sports and Games promote competitive spirit and they add fun to life. Water games and sports have added fun as they are more interesting than the land games.

Swimming

Swimming is a popular past time as it is a good exercise for health. It is a movement in water without artificial assistance. It can be both recreational and useful. There are different swimming strokes such as breast stroke, side stroke, dog paddle, butterfly stroke, etc.

Swimming by moving only legs without arms and moving only arms without legs is also a good exercise. Rescue swimming is a skill that enables and individual to attempt a rescue when a swimmer is in difficultly.

Risks

In swimming there is low risk of injury when compared to other sports. Some of the risks are as follows:

1. A person may get a cramp in his muscles while swimming. In such cases he should get out of water
    and should relax his muscles.
2. Sometimes waves might knock down a person to the shore, especially in oceans.
3. A swimmer should know his limit. He may be too tired to swim or he may be panic. It is very important
    for a swimmer to know his limits.
4. It is very risky to swim in a stormy ocean or sea. When a swimmer gets the sign of the storm, he should
    come out at once.
5. There is much risk involved in swimming in the dark. It should be strictly avoided.

Though there are risks involved, swimming is a good entertainment as well as an exercise.

Fishing

Fishing is a popular sport . For some people it is a life earning sport . Fishing is done by hand gathering, spearing, netting, angling and trapping.

Rafting

It is a recreational activity in which a inflatable raft is used to go in river. Different degrees of rough water is preferred for the thrill & excitement of the raft passengers.

Rowing

Rowing is a team event. It is a race in which the rowers race against each other. Oars are used to propel the boat. The rowers in a boat should have unity among them to drive the boat to the finishing point. Overall fitness of the rowers plays a major role.

Sailing

Controlling a boar with large foils that is fabric is called sailing. In order to change the direction and speed of the boat, the sailor changes the rudder the keel or cease board. A sailor should have experience in knowing the variation in the wind and sea. He should also know about the condition of the sail boats.

Skimming

In skimming, the skimmer rides on an incoming wave using a skin board. In beaches, the board is dropped by the skimmer on the previous wave and then tide on it. They use their energy and ride on breaking waves, some tricks as it is done in skating can also be performed using the skim board.

Surfing

In this surfing, the surfer stands on a board, and rides on the breaking ocean wave. It can also be done in a river using a standing wave. Sometimes, in seas and oceans, the individual, who is surfing, raises his upper body form the board surface and in some cases no board is being used.

Tow in surfing is common sport, In this the surfer is towed into the wave by a motorized vehicle in water. This is done to match the large wave’s speed.

The two other types of surfing and wake surfing and wind surfing.

Water polo

Water polo is a team game, in which there are six players, one goalie and six substitutes. The players need to have skill in swimming, defending and also in passing the ball. The team gets a goal by throwing into the net of the opponent team. A goalie is there to defend. It is similar to that of the land game “Handball”.

Conclusion
