HAITI RELIEF FUNDRAISER
Point Option Alternative School in Newport News, VA. has more heart than students it seems. Home to approximately 75 students, our school responded to the disaster in Haiti in typical Point Option fashion. Over a period of seven days, we raised $925, donated entirely by the staff and students of our tiny school. We raised the money by creating themes for each day of the week, in which students could donate money so that they could participate in that day's theme. The themes were:

Tuesday (1/19/10) : Hat Day. Students contributed $1 each and were able to wear their hats to school during the day.

Wednesday (1/20/10) : Pasta and Pajamas Day. A local business contributed delicious pasta to our cause. A contribution of $3.50 gave students a scrumptious lunch and a cozy day in their pajamas.

Thursday (1/21/10) : Cell Phone and Hot Dog Day. For $5 each, students were able to munch on hot dogs and text to their hearts' content…between classes, of course.

Friday (1/22/10) : Crazy Sock Day. Voluntary contributions were collected during our Crazy Sock Day. Perhaps it was just an excuse to show off the zaniness of our students and staff!

Monday (1/25/10) : Check presentation to the Newport News Chapter of the American Red Cross. Our presentation maybe viewed in two parts, as seen below.

We at Point Option are proud that we were able to play a small part in aiding a country so desperate for support. Our efforts did not go unnoticed. Local media were enthralled by the outpouring of support, and Point Option was co-featured in various local media, including the video below.
