Sport History:

Basketball was invented by James Naismith in 1891 as a way to keep his students in shape during the winter. It first used peach baskets as the hoop, with an attendant taking the ball out after each made shot. However, it wasn't until 1936 that the Olympics made the refined sport of basketball a medal competition.
